Headphones Guide: What are earbud headphones?

Good question! There is some confusion over how different manufacturers describe their headphones.

Most companies use the term earbud headphones to describe those inexpensive ear pieces which rest in your outer ear.

These are the headphones that came included with that last mp3 player you purchased. They are inexpensive, rest in your ear and deliver OK sound.

There are a few shortcomings with regular earbud headphones. While the sound quality is OK, it's not good. And, for those of us with non-standard ears, the darn things keep falling out.

The term "earbud headphones" is sometimes used to describe in-ear headphones. These are the smaller ear pieces that you push into your ear canal.

You can buy inexpensive models of these headphones…but you can also pay hundreds of dollars for them, depending on the quality you want.

This kind of headphone is perfect for when you listen to music while you are on the go. They take up almost no space and are very light when you wear them. That said, not everyone likes in-ear headphones simply because not everyone likes sticking a foreign object into their ear.

If you don't mind the feel of the buds in your ears, in-ear headphones can be the perfect choice when you leave the house, even when you are exercising.

Great quality (if you pay for good ones), light weight, and they also have some noise reduction qualities because they fill your ear canal.
